"How do I setup my website"
SYMPTOM
Setting up world wide web site.
RESOLUTION

  1. This is an introductory to give you the user of NightOwl.Net a run down on just how to go about setting up your home pages on our servers.

If you have not got the WSFTP program installed on your computer you will need to install it.

After installing WSFTP you will need to login to IP address 209.176.170.4 or www.nightowl.net you must use your user assigned internet login and password to gain access to your directory.

Your directory is located in: /home/your-login-name Where your-login-name is your internet login.

Once your logged into your directory you will need to create a directory called "public_html" (with out the quotes) you will notice the create directory command located in the WSFTP program.

Your home page directory is located in: /home/your-login-name/public_html

Once your in the /home/your-login-name/public_html directory you can start transfering your home pages. NOTE that all paths are lower case.

Your starting page must be named "index.html" (with out the quotes). example: /home/your-login-name/public_html/index.html After you have the main start page in place "index.html" you can name your other pages anything that you like.

NOTE: While you work on your pages on your DOS machine you will only be able to name your start page "index.htm" due to the eight charecter limitaions of DOS meaning that once you transfer "index.htm" from your DOS machine to the WWW Server you will have to use the rename command in WSFTP to rename "index.htm" -to- "index.html".

As soon as you have the "index.html" file in place in your directory you should be able to call up your page(s) by goin to: http://www.nightowl.net/~your-login-name

After you have your pages setup please notify us and we will add your pages to the user listings.

A couple of tools that could come in very handy while your in the editing process of your site are Color Codes or the HTML Doctor

Last but not least!!! Hit the search engines and enter your pages in the search querys if you have something to offer the world or you want people to know that your pages exsist! A great place to start is Submit It
